AESTHETIC MEDICINE IS A NON-INVASIVE FORM OF MEDICINE THAT FOCUSES ON ENHANCING A PERSON’S SATISFACTION WITH THEIR OWN APPEARANCE.
Aesthetic medicine is different from cosmetic surgery as it does not require general aesthetic or any surgery and typically has a very quick recovery process, some procedures can even be done during your lunch break!
Aesthetic medicine aims to promote a more youthful appearance through a variety of procedures such as botox injections, laser and chemical treatments and can treat issues such as acne, skin pigmentation, wrinkles, sagging skin and other signs of aging. The Beverly Wilshire Medical Centre prides itself on the service and care given to our patients. Our highly experienced and board certified Aesthetic Physicians will help you reach your goals through an understanding of both your desires and the procedures available, and are more than happy to answer any questions along the way.
I was very excited when I had the opportunity to collaborate with Beverly Wilshire Medical Center so I could venture into some aesthetic procedures.
I was assigned Dr Wong Chee Hin. (MBBS (Malaya), Dip Derm (BKK), Dip. Aesthetic Medicine (US))
Dr Wong Chee Hin graduated from University of Malaya in 1992 and is one of the pioneering doctors in the country to be LCP certified by the Ministry of Health. As a Treasurer of Malaysian Society of Aesthetic Medicine since 2012, he is heavily involved in the development of Aesthetic field here in Malaysia.
He specializes in non-invasive total facial rejuvenation and face lifting involving Fillers, Botox, Thread lift and Laser Cosmetology. Actively involved in seminars and workshops worldwide, he is abreast with new developments and techniques in this advancing field of Aesthetic.
Being in this field of Aesthetic Medicine for more than 10 years now, Dr Wong is known for his caring and friendly personality. He is attentive to his client’s needs, concerns and expectations, delivering a devise personalized treatment program for them. A firm believer of this tagline, ‘Beautiful Young People are accidents of nature, but Beautiful Old People are works of Art’, Dr Wong finds joy and satisfaction in seeing an appreciative smiling face walking out of his practice. In his words, “It is the most worthwhile reward in pursuing this ever-exciting field of Aesthetic.”
After some thought, I opted for some non-surgical and non-invasive procedures for the lower half of my face, under-eye bags and nose to enhance my natural facial features.
DISCLAIMER: I am not promoting medical aesthetics, nor am I saying everyone needs it. I believe everyone has a right to make a decision for themselves and for their body. If you are uncomfortable with a specific feature you have, and you are open to the thought of cosmetic procedures, then by all means. Fillers and botox will not make you perfect, neither will they last forever. At the end of the day, do what makes you happy.
After a thorough consultation with my doctor, I was brought into the treatment room where my face was cleansed and sanitized, and a ‘before’ photo was taken for reference and comparison.
Next, the areas I was going to have the procedures done were prepped with numbing cream. (very important!)
- Filler: Emervel Volume
- BTA ( Botulinum Toxin Type A): Xeomin
- Mesohydration: Restylane
After a good 20 minutes, the numbing cream was wiped away from my skin and the areas were then disinfected with some alcohol swabs.
Below, you can see Dr Wong examining my facial features, and making sure he has marked all target areas to execute the procedures mistake-free, quick and painless.
And.. it happened!
I must say, I don’t like the thought of needles (but having had a couple of body & cartilage piercings done, I braved myself through it) – and it was much less painful than I first expected. I’d say they feel like little ant bites on your face. That’s about it.
Do note that everyone has a different tolerance to pain, and I’d say my pain tolerance is a 7/10.
Dr Wong was extremely thorough, precise, comforting and his hands were really stable (like, really stable). I was very comfortable throughout the entire process and before I knew it, the worst was over! (That numbing cream helped 99.9%! (DO NOT OPT OUT OF NUMBING CREAM, EVER!)
After the procedures were done, my skin was disinfected once again and a light hydrating gel was applied to minimize redness, swelling and prevent bruising.
An ‘after’ photo was also immediately taken and a quick overall comparison was made.
Again, do note, that everyone has different skin sensitivity, some bruise easier than others.
However, Dr Wong was really gentle and I left the clinic make-up free and bruise-free! Yay!
The numbing cream eventually wore off after an hour or so, and I could finally feel my face again.
It feels a little odd at first, but you do get used to it after a bit.
Thank you to the incredible team at Beverly Wilshire Medical Center – Tropicana Mall!
A special thanks to Wendy, Tiffany, Jacqueline and of course Dr Wong for the warm hospitality and making me feel comfortable throughout my entire procedure.
Stay tuned to my follow up post – since fillers need time to set, and the BTA would take 2 weeks to one month to take full effect.
