Journey through the mountains

(International airlines operate flights from major destinations around the world into Ngurah Rai International Airport. Car transfer from the airport to the Resort would take approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes.)

This shorter route takes you through the mountains across the middle of this magical island. From the airport, you will pass Sanur, a popular beachside town, towards Batubulan village. This charming village of artisans is well-known for its sculptures and carvings produced with skills handed down through the generations, and also for the Barong dance, a classic story where the Barong saves the world from the witch Rangda.

The drive continues towards Singapadu village, headed to Kintamani. En route you will pass by Ubud, regarded as the cultural centre of Bali. Stop here for a light lunch at one of the many artsy cafes or an Indonesian restaurant set in the paddy fields. While art galleries and museums abound here, other sites to visit include the Elephant Cave (Goa Gajah), an ornately carved cave nominated as a UNESCO World

Heritage Site; Poet Mountain (Gunung Kawi), a burial complex located at the bottom of a steep valley with stunning views of paddy fields; and Tirta Empul, a highly revered temple build around hot springs where Balinese go to bathe and purify themselves.

Your northbound journey provides dramatic views of the active volcano Mount Batur as it passes through Kintamani. This area is made up of four villages, with Kintamani, Batur and Penolokan villages sitting on the rim of Mount Batur caldera and Toyo Bungkah village by the edge of Lake Batur. With the climate here being 15 degrees Celsius cooler than the coast, Kintamani is a scenic area worth a stop along the route whether to sample locally grown coffee or indulge in fresh tropical fruit.

Your drive will further take you through the quaint villages of Dause and Bondalem, passing through winding roads towards Karangasem that provides majestic views of Mount Agung, after which you will arrive at the Resort.

Journey to the private sanctuary in the north eastern coast of the mystical island of Bali to re-discover or restore one’s sense of “self” through the Discovery Paths. Spa Village Resort Tembok, Bali is an oyster of rich Balinese culture and traditions waiting to be discovered.

Immersed in Balinese culture, each path is designed to offer guests an authentic Balinese experience and has its own set of individual goals. Spirituality and art are interwoven within Balinese culture and are so deeply ingrained into the lives that the Balinese had no word for art or artist in the past. The Creativity path offers guidance in wood carving, basket weaving, performing arts such as drama, music and dance along with other international art forms. A schedule of visiting local and international masters will guide guests through the artistic experience. In addition to daily creativity sessions, this program also includes spa treatments, guided meditation, Yogasana and other activities to inspire creative rejuvenation. Guests are free to delve deeply or lightly as desired.

From the early morning rise for offerings to the last breath of the day, Balinese daily life moves through quiet and vibrancy. With the Vigour path, the resort offers a combination of activities designed to initiate movement. Combined with a balanced nutritional plan, it provides the foundation for guests to regain their strength, stamina and renew their energy. This program includes daily personal training, Yogasana, beach walks, spa treatments and body wraps. Activities such as scuba diving, snorkeling and other outdoor activities are encouraged.

For those who seek a deeper understanding of Balinese healing culture, the resort features the Spa Village Academy. It offers insight into the healing traditions of this unique island. The core material and lessons at the Spa Village Academy are inspired by a Balinese healer from the nearby village of Tembok. This program includes daily classes in the philosophy and practice of the Balinese healing arts. Guests will receive training in Balinese massage techniques and Boreh (body scrub) and an introduction into Jamu (herbal remedies). The Spa Village Academy offers a seven day, six night package with five days of instruction that culminates with a completion celebration and Spa Village Academy certificate. Non-Spa Village Academy guests have the option of taking up a private two- hour session of brief introduction to Balinese massage.

Spa Menu

Skin Care

MESIPAT (NATURAL FACIAL)

This traditional Balinese facial uses local herbs, kayu cendana (sandalwood) and tamarind leaves. This facial incorporates a Balinese facial massage using mini floral pouches and will leave your skin feeling naturally soft and smooth.

GELESIN (ORGANIC CLAY FACIAL)

A traditional Gelesin or express facial starts with a Balinese rice scrub, a face massage with coconut oil before concluding with a choice of volcanic clay, seaweed clay or red clay masque. The soothing clay lifts, firms and exfoliates, resulting in a revitalised and youthful looking complexion. It also helps to draw out toxins and impurities embedded deep within the skin’s pores.

Hair Care

MEKRAMAS (HAIR TREATMENT)

Coconut oil is traditionally used by Balinese for hair care. This treatment uses lengis nyuh (coconut oil) and fried tingkih (candlenut) which are applied to the hair and massaged into the scalp. A mixture of daun pucuk (hibiscus leaves) and fresh lidah buaya (aloe vera) is then applied and left on the hair. This treatment is good for dry scalp, strengthening your hair follicles, moisturising, adding shine and leaving your hair feeling soft and silky. It’s an ideal add-on to any massage, body treatment or facial.

Body Treatments

CAMPUR-CAMPUR (SPA VILLAGE SIGNATURE)

The name Campur-Campur means a blending of varieties in Malay. Combining the best techniques of Malay and Thai massage, our special creation uses touch, tone and aromatherapy to give you a memorable experience. During the treatment, the scent of lemongrass and pandan leaves fill the air as steamed herbs are pressed along the body using a traditional steam pouch.

NAPAK PERTIWI (CLAY BODY WRAP)

Clay has been used for millennia to draw impurities from the skin. Its unique ability to cleanse and nourish makes pelotherapy (therapeutic application of clay) an important component of a detox regime, whether used externally or internally.

SANGKARA AYU (TEMBOK REMEDY BODY MASQUE)*

Warm up with a fresh boreh masque that uses a mixture of galangal, ginger, cloves and rice. This treatment helps to expel wind, relieving muscle aches and flu symptoms while improving blood circulation.

INTARAN (NEEM BODY MASQUE)

The Balinese believe that neem and betel leaves contain wonderful anti-bacterial qualities. Try this natural treatment and benefit from the healing properties while rejuvenating your skin.

TIMUN (CUCUMBER ALOE BODY WRAP)

A superb after-sun smoothy! Anti-inflammatory and highly recommended for sun sensitive conditions.

PEPAYA (PAPAYA ENZYME BODY WRAP)

Locally grown papayas have inspired this unique use of the fruit, gently conditioning the skin and leaving you with a healthy glow.

Massage Therapy

BALINESE

This massage combines historical reference from many cultures, especially Indian, Chinese and European influences, which form the foundation of Balinese traditions. The ritual offers techniques which vary in tempo of acupressure, rolling motions, long strokes and percussion, providing an invigorating and energising experience for the body. Choose to enjoy this massage with or without using oil.

MALAY

The art of traditional Malay massage is passed on from generations. The technique consists of long kneading strokes that focus on the muscles and pressure applied to various points on the body. This treatment uses lengis nyuh (coconut oil), a powerful anti-oxidant which protects, heals and softens the skin.

MELIMPUN (PREGNANCY MASSAGE)

A traditional Balinese pre-natal massage tailored to meet the changing bodies of pregnant women. Trained therapists apply gentle strokes combined with coconut oil to relax tense muscles, ease sore spots, improve blood circulation and mobility for an overall feel good experience.

MEPIJIT POINT (THREE POINT MASSAGE)

This deeply cleansing massage is a synergistic ritual on three areas of the body integral to the detoxification process. Inspired by the movements of Indian head massage, the head is massaged to release tension and reignite neural pathways. Traditional Balinese strokes assist the natural cleansing processes of the intestines whilst stimulation of reflex zones on the feet unifies the total body experience. The varying tempos of acupressure used provide an invigorating and energising experience for the whole body.

FOOT MASSAGE

The theory of reflexology lies in the understanding that feet have reflex points which correspond to internal organs and limbs to balance all functions of the body. By stimulating these points, circulation of the entire body is improved.

Signature Treatments

Spa Village Pre-treatment Ritual: Segara Giri

In the Balinese language Segara means Ocean and Giri means Mountain; a prelude to your spa treatment and based on the local belief that feet act as a conduit between the energy of the earth and the self, this ritual uses the mineral-rich black volcanic sand to cleanse and steam the feet and is considered a way to purify the individual – the treatment is also a wonderful cure for jetlag as it allows for detoxification post travel.

Spa Experience: Penganten Melukat

Traditionally, preparation leading up the wedding begins three days in advance in the villages of the bride and groom. In each of their homes, their mothers would prepare them by performing the traditional melukat (body cleansing ritual). Beginning with the mewangsul (traditional Balinese massage) to relax and soothe, the ritual continues with the meodak (boreh body scrub) to leave skin reinvigorated and glowing. Empahan (fresh milk) is then applied to nourish and moisturise the skin, finally culminating with the mersiram sekar (floral bath). This treatment is designed to purify and cleanse the mind, body and spirit of each individual before they embark on their new journey together.

Starlight Gazing

Inspired by the tranquillity and mysticism of Bali, Spa Village Resort Tembok, Bali, YTL Hotels’ first luxury spa resort, offers a magical experience under a sea of stars.

As the ambient light and pollution from urban development increasingly obscure the skies, the hypnotic pleasure of stargazing has become a treat realised by few. When clear blue skies of Bali darken, they reveal a plethora of stars that appear almost close enough to touch. Starlight Gazing is a perfect blend of nature’s simplicity with the hi-tech fusion of Ultra Meditation music.

The experience is magically enhanced by music designed to induce deep relaxation while gently coaxing the brain into the elusive and mysterious theta state of consciousness as the guest floats weightless on the calm water of the resort’s infinity pool. This state has been found by biofeedback researchers to expand and enhance memory and learning capabilities.

As the Ultra Meditation soundtrack mentally relaxes one into theta consciousness, the body naturally relaxes too. The heart rate slows down, respiration becomes regular and muscles begin to relax. The sense of total weightlessness and soothing sounds of the music eases the mind, leaving it free to focus inward as outside distractions melt away. Starlight Gazing allows one to slip into his own private universe, alone but not lonely, connecting with one’s creative and spiritual self.
